A typical requirement however is to ask the user to supply a reason for rejecting the case in which case your Ticket would be attached to an assignment -- one that is unreachable when traversing from a start shape, i.e., what you refer to as an "orphaned" shape.
A "truly" orphaned shape is one that is completely unreachable.
To add to what Lee has said: If you are using Pega 7 then the new more correct way to do this would be to have an alternate stage called withdraw and add the change stage flow action as a local action for your case.
