I am using the approval smart shape to provide a review step prior to the creation and attachment of a PDF file. Only if it is approved should the PDF attach. If rejected is selected, I am routing to an alternate stage were corrections can be made and then return to the review step.
The problem I am having is PDF attachment is created no matter which is selected Approve or Reject. The routing all works correctly. I was assuming if the approval step was rejected the Approval smart shape would automatically route to the alternate stage without triggering the PDF creation step.
I have attached my current life cycle flow.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how this should be configured?

I have already configured the step to route to the Approval Rejection stage if rejected. Attached is the configuration. The routing works fine.
My question is that why does the second step of my Review process execute if before it routes to the Approval Rejection stage. I would assume if step one of the review process is rejected then step two which creates the PDF would not execute and the case would be routed directly to the Approval Rejection stage. Only if step one of the review process is approved should step two execute.
