Best practice for managing mobile app updates
Dear Pega Community,
what is the best practice to manage updates to a mobile app that was generated for a Pega 8.+ application?
The scenario is the following:
1. We enable mobile channel and distribute native android or apple application using QR code.
2. In case of simple changes to the flows or screens no update of the application on mobile devices is needed.
3. But if the changes require a new native build, what is the best practice to inform the users? Is there an automatic way to push the update? Does it have to be a manual action from a user to e.g. scan a new QR code again?
If new build is the only option, you can send push notification to all the users to inform about new build. But based on my knowledge and understanding, installation should be manual by scanning new bar code.
Adding one more thought. I haven't tried this on any application.
When we scan bar code it opens a URL on browser. We can try the bar code for new version on one phone and copy that URL. Then we can configure to launch that URL on a button/menu click inside existing version of application.
