What version of Pega Knowledge are you using? The rich text editor (CK Editor) was updated recently and handles formatting better than earlier versions.

On your last question about changing the article status to published after import, the Pega Knowledge 8.1 version provides a Bulk processing feature that allows the selection of one to many articles and the ability to change their status to Resolved-Published.
