Credential manager file encryption decryption format
Hi,
When I store a credential in the credential store and export the appinfo file to another machine and then try to fetch the stored credential in another machine, i am facing the issue. kindly let me know on what basis the encryption is happening? is it machine specific or user id specific or its a combinaion of both?
Error message: "Key is not in a specified format"
Thanks in advance.

The credential data is encrypted using MSDPAPI. You cannot export it to another machine. The only way a user can use his/her credentials from one machine to the next is if the network admin has enabled roaming profiles.

Thanks for your response.
For configuring roaming profile, Should we keep the appinfo file in the share path from where both machines can access? if i do so, would i be able to create a credential from one machine and decrypt the same from another machine?

Roaming profiles automatically transfer the required files over. It needs to be kept in the stock location.

Hi sasnt,
May I know... If turning on roaming profile is not an option, how can we transfer the encrypted credential store info from one PC to another?

The component doesn't support that. The file is encrypted with other pieces from their profile which need to be present for security purposes. You might open an SR or contact your account team members to get this feature added into the pipeline. If you do open an SR, please include the number in the post for tracking purposes.

There are other methods for sharing credentials from one machine to another (storing in database, password manager programs, etc.). The product will allow you to use these methods but does not provide any canned way to interface to them, that would be your responsibility.

Hi Ramesh,
How did you setup the Appinfo.xml? I mean can you share a sample? And also, can you please share the location where you created this file? I do not see a folder by the name of 'Documents and Settings' in my home drive.
