If i check the error "String was not a date" is being thrown with InvalidValueException which is extending PRRuntimeException, but DatabaseException is extending PRException. May be this is the reason why the InvalidValueException is not being caught by DatabaseException.

InvalidValueException doesn't belong to database util, but it belongs to the Clipboard related exception which is being thrown as your date format is not valid in your case. I can able to see the documentation for the InvalidValueException class in the Engine API in Pega 7.2.2 as shown in attachment.
