Grid Layout - Data is not populating
I have created a data list with pre-filled data. However, when chosen in the grid, it is not generating the columns and filling the rows. I basically need to fill the grid, and load the detail section below.
Are there any useful links available with samples for grids?

I think you are trying to implement the repeat grid layout by using a data page list or report definition in your section. If this is your requirement you can go to Designer Studio > User Interface > UI Gallary
Here you can find the samples of the Grids in Tables & Grids section and you can open the corresponding example and click on "View design-time configuration" to see the configuration.
Is there a way to copy this example from the UI gallery into a sample case, and modify? For some reason, I'm not getting the command buttons below the grid similar to the one shown in the gallery example.

You can open any sample example of the Grid as shown in Step1 attachment and click on View design time configuration as shown here, then it will open the corresponding section where this Grid is being used as shown in Step2 attachment. From here you can save this rule into your sample case and modify it according to your data using Save As or you can Copy the Grid available in the section and paste it into your own section then modify it according to your own data.
But my suggestion would be to go through the configuration used over here for the Grid and then try to create it by your own in the section which is not complex. You just need to drag and drop one Layout > Row/list based structure - select which grid type you want > provide the source to the Grid that can be Data Page/Report Definition/Property(Page List/Page Group type) and select the properties you want to display. The more you explore its properties the more you can understand rather than copy and reuse, if you are new to grids.
