postgreSQL 11 support and PLjava
the platform support guide clearly green lights postgreSQL 11 for use with Pega Platform 8.2, but the installation guide (tomcat/postgres) states the usual installation of the PLjava module in postgres, while the install image only provides the jar file for postgreSQL 9.3, 9.4, 9.5, 9.6
Where is the prebuild jar for postgres 11 ?
and yes, I realize that I could go to github (https://github.com/tada/pljava/releases), download the source install Maven, gcc-c++, gcc, openssl, and build my own, but if you support/recommend postgreSQL 11, why is the jar not provided in the install image?
I understand where you are coming from. My take for this is that UDF (which pljava supports) is never essential for Pega core features and should never be used in production. It is more a 'nice to have' addon for dev/test at best. That probably explains why we stop building the jar for every single version of Postgresql. Personally I would simply bypass the UDF installation all together to avoid the pain of having to build the pljava on your own.
this is good to know ... as the install guide is not specific on the PLjava requirement, and this is particularly a problem when you are using a Cloud SQL service where you do not have access to alter the provided Modules in the SQL server. This is for a trial Cloud install on GCP, so in the meantime I have created a parallel install of postgreSQL 9.6 on a roll-your-own server where I do have complete control.
based on your information, I will to two trial installs then, one using my 9.6 server with PLjava and one with the 11 server without PLjava.
