Reserve Queue Item taking inordinate time


We need to process a million records and create cases in Pega. Each case takes around 30-40 seconds. We have designed a parallel batch process with 200 standard agents. Everything is working fine but we observed the below alert very frequently.

Message Database operation took more than the threshold of 8000 ms: 54,986 ms SQL: {call PEGCCDBP.sppr_sys_reservequeueitem_b ( ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?) }

As a result of this, we have realized having 200 agents is not actually helping at all, if not being counter productive. If it takes 54 seconds to reserve a queue item what is the purpose of having 200 agents. Any advise??
