One of the user stories I was working these days got a requirement that most of the string values used in the project should be referenced from an excel file so that after going live the user can change the sting values in excel to manage the system. For an example, I am providing the path of an word document file to an automation as a string value and if we can save that string in an excel file, the user can change the file path if we can have that configuration value in an external file. How to use such a configuration file in Pega robotics?
In the example described, you would still need to know the path of the excel file where you are storing the path of the word document. Then, you will need to use the Excel Connector to open the excel document and read the path value from the cell where it is stored. This value could be modified by the user before or during your automation flow, but this is your choice during implementation.
Alternatively, you could have the user pass the word document's path through a windows form UI (perhaps if different from a hard-coded value?) instead of having the extra step of dealing with the excel connector.
Thanks for your reply. Actually my original question was how to use an excel to get configuration values for most of the controls in a solution. That means, yes we have to hardcode the path of one excel file or other means. But after that we use that excel to store all the other configuration values for the rest of controls.I found most of the methods to set those configuration values needed for controls. ie:Workbook of an excel, document path for a word doc, connection string of a DB etc. Thanks for directing me that side.I had never seen those methods before.
I saw that in a web adapter, there are no methods to define the timeout values. Is that the values are not supported to set using methods?
