Is your question, can you start the Pega Robotics Runtime from an Excel macro? Yes, but I am not sure of the benefit of doing that. In most cases you would use the Runtime to open Excel. Using the Excel connector you can also run macros in Excel.
But, for the requirement we are working -- To avoid additional GUI, Our thought is - As the data is available on excel it self, just adding a button in excel to trigger robot would minimize additional screen.
Robot writes back data to the same excel.
Is this correct ?
Note : Robot has to use some excel cells data as input.
The Excel connector does not allow you to work with the UI of Excel. I have seen some clients interrogate Excel directly to catch a Message Box and then trigger an automation. This is a bit of a kludge though.
