I have a table on a section that I am sourcing through a report definition. The columns are First Name, Last Name, and SSN.
I also have a form that a user fills out asking for his details(first name, last name etc) so I can see if his name is in the database table.
My question is how can I limit the results of my report definition based upon the search parameters of an input? So for instance, if a person puts their first name "John" on the form and clicks the button "Search" how can I only pull back results in my report definition that only has the name John? So far I have just configured the "search" button with an event-action to display all the results on the grid on click. Now I want to only display the results based on the name/ssn etc. Thank you.

To the report defn (source of the grid), define input parameter Firstname, Lastname and SSN and in the filter criteria match where the properties are equal to (or Starts with) the corresponding parameter values.
In the grid, pass the user entered values to the report definition parameters. Where the parameters values are not available at runtime, those filter criteria are automatically ignored. Therefore, if the user has entered only the Firstname, then the report definition will only return for results matching on this field.
Note that you have to 'post' the values of the user entered fields so they are available to the report definition parameters.
