We are planning to upgrade a sample application from Pega v6.3 to v8.2, process is INPLACE. Will it be possible with below system specification ? Or do I need to upgrade the application to 7.x first and then to 8.2 ?
Pega v6.3 application server and DB derails are like - Tomcat 7 (Java SE 6) and Oracle 11g.
We have gone through the above document and that tells about upgrade steps, that`s fine.
But as per 8.x supporting guide Pega will support only Tomcat 8 with Java 8 or Tomcat 9 with Java 8, If app server is Apache Tomcat.
And currently we are trying to do In-Place upgrade from 6.3 to 8.2, where Tomcat 7 with Java 6 is App server for 6.3. As per this I think we need to go for Out-Of-Place approach where we have Pega 8.2 on Tomcat 8 with Java 8 or Tomcat 9 with Java 8.
OR is there any way to do In-Place upgrade with above mentioned details ? Please help us.
You need to use the version mentioned in the platform support guide for 8.x environment.
You can go for an in-place upgrade from 6.3 to 8.x using the required (supported) jdbc jar and you need to use java version 1.8.
The difference between in-place and out place upgrade is that in an in-place upgrade you performing upgrade in the same DB but in an out place upgrade you are migrating the content of the original schema to a different schema on a separate DB, perform the upgrade and then migrate it back to the original schema.
Please make sure to take the DB backup before starting the upgrade and once the upgrade is completed you can point to the DB from the newer version of Tomcat(8 or 9).
