At high level, Atmosphere is a module (based on open source project - see https://github.com/Atmosphere/atmosphere and repackaged by Pega) handling real time notification introduced in 7.2.2 (class in the error stack is from pratmosphere-runtime-126.96.36.199.jar). Suggest create a SR for further investigation, looks like there is some issue between atmosphere running in WAS 8.5+
We compared their instances and found that the setting for "Enable servlet and command caching" (from Webspehere Console > Container Management) was enabled for the instances where this "ClassCastException" was noticed in the logs. Customer is not sure why this was enabled, not mentioned in the PRPC installation document.
