You should be able to interrogate the text field area using the interrogating bulls eye. Once you have interrogated the text field, the object explorer will display a generic web control. 

Even though the control looks as a generic control and not a text control, you should still be able to use the text property of the generic control to pass text into the field area.

I was able to do so in my testing locally.
